Windermere creature provokes Loch Ness Monster claims

Sightings of a creature not dissimilar to the mythical Loch Ness Monster have caused a stir in the normally quiet waters of Windermere.

A swimmer and a photographer claim to have seen a "large creature", dubbed "Bownessie" - in the murky depths.

But Dr Ian Winfield, who has studied the lake for 20 years, has dismissed the "sightings" as nothing more than otters or pikes stirring the water's surface.
