Peter Preston: UK can't afford the Falklands

Britain fought a war for the Falkland Islands in 1982 but protecting them costs UK taxpayers millions and millions of pounds every year.

Former Guardian editor Peter Preston thinks we need a bit of political bravery and admit we can no longer fund the islands in the south Atlantic.

He was it was time to negotiate a "leaseback" deal with the Argentines who claim the "Malvinas" as their own and added: "We could pay out for ever.. or we could say: it is time to make a change."
