Home Secretary: Government 'appalled' on sex offenders ruling

Home Secretary Theresa May says the government is "disappointed and appalled" over a Supreme Court ruling that not giving offenders the right of appeal was incompatible with their human rights.

She told the House of Commons the government was determined to protect people from "predatory sex offenders" and would do the minimum to comply with the ruling.

The decision means thousands of sex offenders in England and Wales are set to be given the right to appeal against having to register with the police for life.
