Barnsley byelection - Lib Dem Simon Hughes reaction

Liberal Democrat deputy leader Simon Hughes explained how he went campaigning in Barnsley and joked how he helped to win 12 votes there, but added it was not a seat his party was likely to win, saying it was an "arid desert" for the party.

Labour took 60 per cent of the vote and UKIP rose to second, but the Lib Dems fell from runner-up to sixth place.

He debated the result with Daniel Finkelstein, executive editor of the Times, and Steve Richards, columnist for the Independent.
