Trade unions want to negotiate over pensions, says Cable

The biggest public sector union Unison is predicting a long campaign of strikes against changes to public sector pensions, but Business Secretary Vince Cable says he believes most unions want to negotiate.

The government wants to reform public sector pensions - meaning a later retirement age and higher contributions for most workers - and claims the current pension system is unaffordable in the long-term.

Mr Cable said: "There's got to be reform otherwise the burden falls on taxpayers and future generations".
