High Street shop closures: online shops and wages blamed

City AM editor Allister Heath said weaker shops were failing as wages were squeezed and because more people shopped online.

Conservative MP Clare Perry said towns with independent shops were faring better and she called for a link betwen business rates and local councils.

And Sir Martin Sorrell said the UK was one of the fastest-growing markets for online shopping.
