Nick Clegg promises to keep 50p top rate tax

Liberal Democrat leader Nick Clegg has promised to keep the 50p top rate of income tax, despite suggestions from the Conservatives that it should be scrapped.

Speaking as delegates gather for the party's annual conference, the deputy prime minister said that the focus of the party needs to be helping low and middle income earners first.
