Fair Fuel petition: Quentin Willson and Natascha Engel

Motoring journalist Quentin Willson, part of the Fair Fuel UK Campaign, said the government has badly handled the e-petition calling for lower pump prices.

He said petrol costs were affecting growth, prosperity and deficit reduction, and there were still two more duty prices to come in 2012.

Labour MP Natascha Engel, Chairman of the Backbench Business Committee responsible for scheduling any debate, explained the Parliamentary technicalities of why it may not take place, but why she thought it was important.

The public can suggest topics for MPs to debate if they can collect 100,000 electronic names on a petition on a Downing Street website.
