News of the World 'misled' MPs on phone hacking claims

A committee of MPs looking into phone-hacking allegations was "misled repeatedly" by the News of the World and News International, its chairman told a news conference.

John Whittingdale said a previous report from the Commons Media and Select Committee was not based on a "fully accurate picture" and the firm had failed to disclose documents that would have revealed the truth.

He said the decisions were reached by a majority vote.

News Corporation criticised a key conclusion of the report - that Rupert Murdoch is not "fit" to run the business - as "unjustified".
