Boris Johnson apology for Spectator Hillsborough article

London's mayor has apologised for comments made in a 2004 Spectator article about Liverpool fans at the Hillsborough disaster and the city's reaction.

Boris Johnson said Wednesday's report "does lay to rest the false allegation that was made at the time about the behaviour of those fans".

Mr Johnson, who was a Conservative MP and Spectator editor at the time, said "I was very, very sorry in 2004 that the Spectator did carry an editorial that partially repeated those allegations, I apologised then and I apologise now."

On Wednesday, the prime minister was asked in the House of Commons about Mr Johnson apologising for comments, and David Cameron said: "People need to come to their senses and realise this is what happened."
