Conservative conference: Cameron on 'greatest country on earth'

Britain was "still greatest country on Earth" claimed the prime minister before speaking of "difficult times" and "being tested".

He told the Tory conference in Birmingham the UK invented the computer, defeated the Nazis, saw off the slave trade, unravelled DNA, and persuaded the Queen to jump out of a helicopter to make the rest of the world smile.

He called on the country and the party faithful to "build an aspiration nation" and urged them to "get out there and do it".
