Work Programme figures: Labour's Liam Byrne
The shadow work and pensions secretary claimed the Work Programme was a "comprehensive failure" and said the government had tried to keep figures secret.
Liam Byrne said it was "worse than doing nothing", adding that the coalition had cancelled schemes started by Labour that were "working very well".
Firms and charities are paid to help find jobs for the long-term unemployed, and official figures released on Tuesday showed only 3.53% of people found a job for six months or more - below the 5.5% target.
