TUC's Frances O'Grady on rail and Underground strikes

Unions want to hold talks about a series of planned strikes affecting rail and London Underground services over the festive period, the incoming general secretary of the Trades Union Congress said.

Frances O'Grady, who takes up the top TUC job in the new year, said unions had got "a very big yes vote" for their planned action.

She said the key issues were working over the bank holidays and calls for a "fair reward", and claimed that people only went on strike "when they felt they have a just cause".

RMT union members are planning action on Cross Country and ScotRail trains, with Aslef members on the London Underground voting to walk out for the third Boxing Day in a row.
