Ed Balls says Brown made 'big mistake' scrapping 10p tax rate

Gordon Brown was wrong to get rid of the 10p tax rate, said the shadow chancellor as Labour announced plans to bring it back.

Ed Balls told Andrew Neil how senior Labour figures told Mr Brown how the plan would not work, adding: "The thing in politics is: can you admit when you make big mistakes? It was a big mistake."
