Conservative polling: Rick Nye and Peter Bone MP

David Cameron is seen as a "more modern, more attractive, more inclusive" leader and is polling better than his party, said Rick Nye, director of market research company Populus.

He was debating with Conservative MP Peter Bone about whether the party could learn anything from the 2012 US Presidential election for the UK 2015 general election after Jo Coburn spoke to Bush speechwriter David Frum.

Mr Bone said the government's gay marriage proposals were a "big open goal" but were not typical of what Mr Cameron was doing, as they also looked at the electoral success and appeal of Tony Blair.

The Tory backbencher said: "You don't want to be on the centre ground. You want to be on the common ground where most people are"
