BBC waste: MP on bill to reveal spending and receipts

A private member's bill from a Conservative MP would require the BBC to publish receipts for more than £500, to bring it in line with councils who already have to make such information available.

Alun Cairns said the licence fee was the "greatest regressive tax in the UK" and the public had the right to know how their money was spent.

He said BBC journalists scrutinised other public bodies, and the move would help the broadcaster check its spending - and that he was doing it "as a friend of the BBC".

Daily Politics presenter Andrew Neil appeared to help the MP's campaign by offering a physical list of own claims for more than £500 in the last year as Jo Coburn spoke to Grazia Magazine's Gaby Hinsliff and the Daily Mail's Andrew Pierce.
