Professor Heinz Wolff on Britain's record on inventions

Professor Heinz Wolff of Brunel University looked at the UK's record on inventions as he claimed that "fashion was a form of engineering".

The list ranges from toilets to toothbrushes and trains to lawn mowers. but it is reckoned the nation has not always been clever at making money from these bright ideas.

The Commons' science and technology committee described the lack of conversion of inventions to new jobs and growth as a "valley of death" in a report out on Wednesday.

Professor Wolff was tested on international inventions and money-making figures along with MPs Steve Webb and Hilary Benn.
