Mentoring and New Enterprise Allowance: Levi Roots and Mark Hoban

A mentoring scheme for people starting their own business is being backed by Reggae Reggae Sauce entrepreneur Levi Roots, who started out under a previous scheme before finding fame on BBC2's Dragon's Den.

He spoke of how he was mentoring a south London skateboarding business, and discussed what help was needed by those starting up their own firm.

Mr Roots, the Job Centre ambassador for entrepreneurship, said it was "not just about the money" but it was important to help those starting their own business to know they were not on their own.

Work and Pensions Minister Mark Hoban explained the New Enterprise Allowance, launched two years ago, was encouraging jobseekers to consider self-employment, and aimed to create 40,000 businesses by 2015.
