PMQs: Cameron and Miliband on Syria and arming rebels

Ed Miliband claimed lifting the arms embargo on the Syrian rebels could mean more Russian arms going to the Assad regime.

He asked the prime minister what safeguards would be in place if "lethal" equipment was supplied and an assurance that Parliament would be recalled for a vote.

But David Cameron said the UK had not supplied the opposition with weapons, but had provided "technical assistance and non-lethal equipment".

He said Russia has been helping to arming the Syrian regime for decades and President Putin was meeting him in Downing Street for talks ahead of the G8 summit.
