'Our pay is last thing on earth we should discuss' - Vaz

"The last thing on earth that MPs should be talking about is their own pay" said senior politician Keith Vaz, ahead of an expected announcement of a big salary increase.

The Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority is expected to say backbench MPs' £66,000 salaries should increase to more than £70,000 from the election.

Keith Vaz, chairman of the Home Affairs Select Committee said: "This has always been a point of contention between the press, the public and members of parliament themselves."
