MPs' pay: Nick Clegg calls for 'fair treatment' for all

MPs' pay should be increased to £74,000 a year from 2015, the Commons expenses watchdog has said.

But the Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority (Ipsa) also recommends cuts to perks such as meal allowances and taxis and a less generous pension scheme.

A number of MPs have said the pay offer is too high in the current economic climate.

Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg said on a phone-in programme on the London radio station LBC that he did not think the increase was appropriate.
