Universal credit 'out of control' - Labour

The government has lost control of the universal credit welfare programme, the shadow work and pensions secretary has said.

Liam Byrne accused Iain Duncan Smith of mismanaging the project and his department, and called for cross-party talks on the reforms.

A National Audit Office report into the universal credit had criticised the scheme for being badly managed and poor value for money.
