UKIP conference: Nuttall on MEP candidate selections

UKIP's deputy leader admitted the party was "too white... too middle class... too male" but hoped its candidates for the next elections would offer a "more eclectic bunch of people".

Paul Nuttall said it was taking votes from the largest three parties, and attracted people who had not voted in the last 20 years.

Asked about MEPs who have left the party, Mr Nuttall said it had "tightened up the process" and said that to win the 2014 European elections: "We have to get the process right".

He told Andrew Neil: "We are a young party, we are only 20-years-old this week, and young parties go through growing pains. I can assure you, next time it will be different."
