Labour conference: Khan on new homes and council powers
An incoming Labour government would have a target of "at least 200,000 new houses to be built between 2015 and 2020", said Sadiq Khan.
The shadow justice secretary, Lord Chancellor and minister for London admitted the Labour "did not build enough housing" while in power for 13 years.
He said it would be a "brave council leader" that did not take on the powers it would gain from a Labour government to build houses, while parents had their grown-up children "sofa surfing" in the family home.
