Grangemouth unions 'conned' says Michael Connarty MP

The Grangemouth unions have been "conned and set-up" said the Labour MP who serves the area around the petrochemical plant which is set is to close.

Ineos made the announcement following a meeting with the workforce at the plant and its associated oil refinery.

Michael Connarty said it was "quite clear this company prepared for this conflict quite well" when he spoke to Andrew Neil on BBC's Daily Politics soon after the closure was announced.

But the Linlithgow and East Falkirk MP reckoned there was a "serious prospect" of a potential buyer, although he could not give a name.

He said the plant may not be "loss making in the long term", but said the company wanted to "beat the union down".
