Labour 'still committed' to HS2 high speed rail plan

Labour is committed to the HS2 rail plan which will give "better connectivity to the rest of the country, better train links and extra capacity", said a councillor on the West Yorkshire Transport Authority.

James Lewis said it was a "long term project and we have to get it right", dismissing suggestions that the Labour Party might pull its support for the high speed line.

Shadow chancellor Ed Balls has said there could be no "blank cheque" for HS2, But Cllr Lewis told Andrew Neil: "I think we are absolutely clear in that Labour is still committed to this project but quite rightly asking questions about cost."
