Remembrance Day is UK 'national day', says Tony Parsons

Remembrance Sunday is the UK's "national day", said Tony Parsons, who reckoned it was an occasion when "we really do feel like a united kingdom".

The journalist and broadcaster said there was no obligation to remember but "you remember because it's the right thing to do".

He debated the growing interest in commemorations - and the modern pressure to wear a poppy - with Emily Maitlis, Alan Johnson and Michael Portillo on BBC1's This Week.
