'Move House of Lords and Royal Opera House north'

Iconic buildings such as the British Museum, House of Lords and Royal Opera House should be moved from London to the north of England to help regeneration, says a former Blair adviser.

Patrick Diamond, a Labour councillor, said they should follow the BBC example. It moved the production of some programmes from London to MediaCity in Salford, which is also used by ITV and other media groups. Mr Diamond said this had helped the economy of north west England.

He called for "bold and brave decisions" as he called on cultural institutions to re-think where they should be based and said it was "time to get away from the London-centric approach, it's time to look north".

Mr Diamond will be a guest on Wednesday's Daily Politics, around 12:40 GMT on BBC2, and will debate this film with Conservative MP Sajid Javid and Labour's Chuka Umunna.
