EU Referendum Bill may be lost in Lords says Browning

The EU Referendum Bill "could be killed" by the numbers of Labour and Liberal Democrats who have turned up in the House of Lords, said a Conservative peer.

Baroness Browning said the "body politics has let people down" as voters wanted a referendum and all parties had promised them one, but opponents were attempting to filibuster its progress in the upper chamber.

The debate on the bill authorising a referendum has been approved by MPs, but needs approval from the House of Lords before the end of the current session in April to become law.
