Cameron on free schools: 'Judge us on our record'

A row has broken out in the coalition over school places funding, with allies of Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg accusing the Education Secretary Michael Gove of "lunacy".

Lib Dem sources claim 30,000 local authority places are being lost as money is diverted to new free schools, but aides to Mr Gove say more school places are being created overall.

Speaking to The Andrew Marr Show, Prime Minister David Cameron defended the government's education policies and said he was "happy to be judged on the record of what we have done".

He also spoke out in support of free schools, saying that they were "an excellent innovation".
