How BBC decides election coverage for political parties

Past performance at elections, consistent polling, and the number of candidates help decide how parties are allocated election broadcasts and coverage on political programmes, the head of BBC editorial policy explained.

On the Daily Politics, Ric Bailey told Andrew Neil about what is taken into account when allocating slots.

And he was asked about the public perception over UKIP appearing to get so much coverage on BBC TV, radio and online output, at the expense of other parties, including the Greens.
