Mark Reckless defection a 'betrayal' - Tories

Conservative chairman Grant Shapps has accused Mark Reckless of "betrayal" by defecting to UKIP.

In his opening speech to the Conservative conference in Birmingham, Mr Shapps told a hall packed with party members: "Your trust has been abused. You have been cheated".

Mark Reckless has denied claims he acted in bad faith and has said that he is trying to "do the right thing" by his constituents.
