Former Sunday Mirror editor: 'Public had right to know'

Media commentator and former Sunday Mirror editor, Paul Connew, has said "the public had a right to know" about the story in the Sunday Mirror, which prompted the resignation of Tory MP Brooks Newmark from his post as minister for civil society.

However, Mr Connew said he had some concerns about the methods used by the newspaper, describing it as "strange and worrying".

He also said the case would be the "first big test for Ipso", the newspaper industry's new regulator.
