UKIP MP Douglas Carswell arrives at Westminster

The first UKIP MP elected to Westminster claimed change was coming as he arrived at the House Of Commons to take up his seat.

Douglas Carswell faced a media scrum in the rain asking about further possible defections, the Rochester and Strood by-election, and TV leader debates for the 2015 general election.

He told reporters his priorities would be for political reform, banking reform and holding ministers to account over the UK's borders.

Mr Carswell resigned his seat as a Tory MP, and won last Thursday's by-election in his Essex seat with a 12,000 majority.
