Jose Manuel Barroso dismisses jibe by Grant Shapps
The outgoing president of the European Commission, Jose Manuel Barroso, has dismissed criticism of him by Conservative chairman Grant Shapps who called him "an unelected bureaucrat".
Replying to a question by the BBC's James Robbins following his speech at Chatham House, Mr Barroso said he was not aware of who Mr Shapps was.
He also said he had spent years in government before becoming EC president, and had twice been elected as president by the elected members of the European Parliament.
