UKIP's Suzanne Evans on candidate Kerry Smith comments

UKIP's deputy chairman said she was glad its candidate in an Essex seat has resigned and the party was "delighted he has done the decent thing".

Suzanne Evans said it was "not good enough" for Kerry Smith to have blamed sedatives over offensive remarks he made in a phone call.

She said the party had suffered "teething troubles", but added other parties did not address their problems: "The difference with us is that we deal with them."

Mrs Evans said: "It's been a disaster, I can't say anything otherwise, It's not been a good week and we have to be honest and admit that."
