BBC Rewind: 1983 Labour manifesto
Labour propose massive public investment, withdrawal from the EEC and nuclear disarmament in their manifesto for the 1983 general election, 'The New Hope For Britain'.
Leader Michael Foot claims that Britain cannot afford to continue with the present policies of the Conservative government.
The manifesto was later dubbed "the longest suicide note in history" by Gerald Kaufman, a member of Michael Foot's shadow cabinet.
