Tim Farron wins Lib Dem leadership contest

Tim Farron has beaten Norman Lamb to become the new leader of the Liberal Democrats.

Mr Farron, MP for Westmorland and Lonsdale, won with 56.5% of the vote.

His predecessor, Nick Clegg, stood down as leader in May, following the party's disastrous result at the general election.

Political correspondent Carole Walker says that, with so few MPs, the new leader's task of rebuilding his party will not be easy.
