Election 2015: Why did the Liberal Democrats lose?

The Conservatives' unexpectedly decisive win at the general election came in part due to some stunning successes against their former coalition partners, the Liberal Democrats.

They were completely wiped out in the south-west of England, losing every one of their 15 seats to the Tories.
