Labour's education spokesman on English primary schools

Lucy Powell said 10% of families would not get their first-choice for a primary school in England for their children, and half that number will get not get any of their choices, leading to larger classes.

Labour's education spokesman talked to Daily Politics presenter Jo Coburn on the day parents learned about the offers for school places, and a report showed councils wanted 336,000 more school places by 2024.

When asked about the effect of birth rates on school places she described a claim from Conservative MP Priti Patel about the impact of immigration on the figures as "scaremongering".
