Boris Johnson says he is 'deeply sorry for pain and loss of Covid victims'

The former PM opens his evidence to the Covid inquiry by acknowledging the suffering of families during the pandemic.

Boris Johnson faced claims of rule-breaking parties in Downing Street, before later apologising after a report from civil servant Sue Gray, who investigated 16 events where police found multiple breaches of Covid-19 rules during the pandemic.

Mr Johnson has since quit as PM and an MP and was called before the inquiry to go back over his time leading the UK response to Covid from 2020.
