Scottish independence: Carney talks went well says Alex Salmond

First Minister Alex Salmond has said the Bank of England will continue "technical" discussions with the Scottish government ahead of the independence referendum.

Mr Salmond had earlier been in talks with Mark Carney, governor of the Bank of England, and said he expected a "technocratic assessment" on the issue of currency, which would avoid any opinion on whether Scotland would be better or worse off in the event of a "yes" vote.

The first minister told BBC Scotland's Glenn Campbell that the meeting had been productive and they had agreed to continue "the technical discussions that the Bank of England has been having the Scottish government so that our proposals are soundly based in technical terms".

Mr Carney is expected to address the currency implications of independence in a speech in Edinburgh later.
