John Swinney: Atmosphere of absolute panic in no campaign

Scottish Finance Secretary John Swinney has said there is an "atmosphere of absolute panic in the no campaign" after George Osborne promised a timetable for further devolution if voters in Scotland reject independence.

Mr Osborne said on Sunday that a "plan of action" would be set out in the next few days to give "more powers to Scotland; more tax powers, more spending powers, more powers over the welfare state".

Speaking to the Today programme, Mr Swinney said nothing new was being offered and described the plans as vague: "I can't answer to you today - nor could Alistair Darling- what will actually be the proposition that people will get under this alternative scenario."
