Scottish Labour leadership: MP Jim Murphy joins contest

The MP Jim Murphy has confirmed he will stand for the leadership of the Labour Party in Scotland.

Mr Murphy, who represents East Renfrewshire at Westminster, will make a formal announcement on Thursday.

He has told BBC Scotland of his intention to stand and has given an interview to the Daily Record.

The BBC's Lorna Gordon described Mr Murphy as "an extremely ambitious man".
