Four jailed over Edinburgh council bribery scam

Two council employees and two directors of a construction firm have been jailed in Edinburgh for a bribery scam.

Council employees Charles Owenson and James Costello accepted payments worth tens of thousands of pounds, trips to lap dancing clubs and football tickets from two directors of ABC Limited.

In return, Brendan Cantwell and Kevin Balmer's company was given lucrative contracts to look after public buildings in the capital.

The sheriff said they had been an "unholy alliance" of corrupt kindred spirits.

BBC Scotland's Steven Godden reports.
