First UK space-bound rocket fired from Western Isles
The first rocket to leave the Earth's atmosphere from UK soil was fired from a missile range in the Western Isles.
Blast-off happened during an international military exercise, the At Sea Demonstration 15 which was designed to test the ability of warships to defend themselves against incoming missiles, in the Atlantic in October 2015.
The American Terrier-Orion two-stage rocket was safely intercepted and destroyed by the US Navy's guided missile destroyer USS Ross.
