The Scottish village left £400,000 by former PoW

Heinrich Steinmeyer was a former German soldier who has left £400,000 to the village of Comrie in Perthshire, where he was held captive as a PoW during World War Two.

Mr Steinmeyer died in 2014 aged 90 and left the money to the village in return for the kindness he was shown there.

George Carson’s father, also called George, was good friends with Heinrich and told the Today programme that this was his way of saying thank you.
