NHS helpline 'turned off if 999 busy'

The NHS Direct Wales helpline is sometimes turned off as its nurses deal with 999 calls instead, health union Unison has claimed.

It said the service is being "compromised" as staff prioritise non-life threatening calls that are transferred from the ambulance service.

But the ambulance service running the helpline say it is always available.

Darron Dupre, regional organiser for UNISON, told Felicity Evans about the challenges being faced.
