Police commissioners: Can the system survive?

The Gwent police and crime commissioner (PCC) who sacked his chief constable has been criticised by a committee of MPs for his "disdainful" attitude to a parliamentary inquiry.

Ian Johnston was accused of "menacing and bullying" chief constable Carmel Napier, who says he forced her to resign.

The Home Affairs Select Committee report calls for greater scrutiny of the PCCs' decisions.

On the BBC Radio Wales Sunday Supplement programme, presenter Vaughan Roderick spoke to Newport West Labour MP Paul Flynn, who says the public has no enthusiasm for PCCs.

First he asked Dr Tim Brain, a former Gloucestershire chief constable who is now an honorary research fellow at Cardiff University, if the Gwent experience was one of system failure.
