Wales' health regulator 'not fit for purpose', says MP

Labour MP Ann Clwyd has criticised the Welsh government for not answering her concerns about the standards of healthcare in Wales.

She has been scathing about the state of the Welsh NHS and said the regulator Healthcare Inspectorate Wales is no longer fit for purpose.

The Cynon Valley MP, who has previously spoken out about the poor care her husband received in hospital, said she outlined complaints in a letter to First Minister Carwyn Jones but she is still waiting for a response.

A Welsh government spokesperson said: "The letter Ms Clwyd sent the First Minister in December raised a number of detailed issues and is currently being considered along with a large amount of material Ms Clwyd has shared with us.

"It is important this is considered in detail, but a response will be sent shortly."
